Blind Spots

Balaam set off on his donkey to meet the Moabite King.  This meeting was in direct contrast with God’s will, so God put an invisible angel on Balaam’s path to punish him.  Fortunately for Balaam, his donkey saw the angel when his master could not; and three times the donkey did everything it could to evade the angel, and three times Balaam beat it.  Like a scene from the movie Shrek, the donkey said, “What did I do to deserve this?” It became clear to Balaam that the donkey saw something he could not.  When Balaam could finally see the angel, he informed Balaam that the donkey had spared his life.  The lesson for Balaam is true for us: God often puts people in our lives to help us see the blind spots that we’re oblivious to, or worse, that we don’t want to see.  Whenever they have the audacity to let us know about what they see, it may be our natural tendency to lash out on them.  But we must remember that we need people that love us enough to tell us, “The road you’re on is dangerous. Stop. Turn around.”
