“Opportunity is missed by most people
because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” –Thomas A. Edison
Wanting a wife for his son, Isaac,
Abraham instructed his assistant to travel to a far land and find a woman who wouldn’t do just the bare minimum by serving only the assistant
water, but she’d go above and beyond by also serving the camels. The assistant traveled and found a
beauty, Rebecca, who’d serve him. Scholars
believe that there were many camels (and camels drink a lot of water), so Rebecca
likely dipped her jug into the well an upwards of 100 times! Isaac was very wealthy, and when Rebecca
became his wife, it’s safe to say that she never had to retrieve water again! The lesson for Rebecca is true for you
and me, too: success usually doesn’t come without sacrifice. When we serve we open ourselves up
to opportunities we may not have otherwise had. Service and success go hand and hand.
The
greatest among you must be a servant (Matthew 23:11, NLT).
