“It is always wise to look
ahead, but difficult to look further than you can see.” -Winston Churchill
God asked Lot to evacuate his
family from the city of Sodom and Gomorrah, because the city would soon be
destroyed. His request also
insisted that they not look back. Much to Lot’s dismay, his wife looked
back and turned into a pillar of salt. Lot’s wife’s eyes give us
indication of the condition of her heart: while she may have physically been in
a better place, spiritually she was looking back on what she felt she’d left
behind. Her mind simply couldn’t
fathom that God had something better prepared for them. Here’s the lesson: if we let God lead
our lives then what is before us is always better than what is behind us. You can’t always control every passing mood
or thought, but you do not have to dwell there. Keep looking ahead.
God has better things in store.
Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is
ahead… (Phil. 3:13, NIV).
