“The truth of the matter is that you always know the right
thing to do. The hard part is
doing it.” -Norman Schwarzkopf
Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery, and now this young
man found himself a slave of an Egyptian, Potiphar. Despite being in a bad situation, Joseph made the best of it
by doing good work. However, Potiphar’s
wife became sexually attracted to Joseph, as he was “strikingly handsome.” She asked Joseph to “sleep with her,” and
Joseph responded, “How could I violate his trust and sin against God?” Joseph exhibited both discipline and
courage, even while knowing that perhaps sinning might’ve temporarily made his
plight easier. God was testing Joseph to see if he’d stay faithful even in the
midst of adversity. Just as God
tested Joseph, we too are tested, and it’s up to us to pass the test. The lasting contentment we find in
living up to our own values far outweighs any temporary discomfort we might experience. Continue doing what’s right, and
before long, God will bless you.
One
who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is
dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much
(Luke 16:10, NLT).
