“Things turn out
best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” -John Wooden
Joseph’s father favored him over his brothers. This didn’t sit well with his brothers so
they kidnapped Joseph and sold him into slavery. As a slave at Potiphar’s house, Potiphar’s wife tried to
seduce him and she lied about him, so he was thrown into prison. Joseph probably experienced the deepest
sense of pain, forlorn, regret and confusion: but he never lost faith in God or
hope that his situation could improve. Even in Potiphar’s House and the prison cell Joseph made the
best of his situation and he excelled AND he eventually found himself in Pharaoh's Palace. Joseph became second-in-command of Egypt with the opportunity to beat the coming famine and save Israel. His brothers
bowed down to Joseph, not knowing it was him.
As Joseph revealed who he was he explained, “What you meant for evil, God
meant for good” (Gen. 50:20). It’s
this moment that Joseph realized that all he had been through was a part of
God’s plan. Here’s our takeaway: Even
in the midst of our pain God has a plan. God is continually putting you and me through a process to
develop us into the people we are supposed to be. God’s way may not be your Plan A but there’s never a better
way.
And we know that for those who love God
all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his
purpose (Romans 8:28, NLT).
