“Experience is simply the name we give
our mistakes.” -Oscar Wilde
Abram and Sarai wanted a son, but by Abram’s 99th
birthday it just hadn’t happened yet.
Again, they had hoped and it hadn’t happened in 99 years! They were past childbearing years and thought
it physically impossible for a couple as old as them to have children. One day, however, God appeared to Abram
and changed his name from Abram (Hebrew for “Noble Father”) to Abraham (meaning
“Father of Many”) and Sarai (meaning “Princess”) to Sarah (meaning “Mother of Nations”).
This is important because before
God would perform a miracle He had to change not only the way Abraham and Sarah
saw and understood God, but also the way they understood themselves. With no children they had to walk
around the house calling one another “Father of Many” and “Mother of Nations.” What
a faith builder! Some of you
likewise need to change the way you see yourself. Start calling yourself “blessed” or “highly favored” or
“forgiven” or “joyful” or “physically able” or “peaceful” or “confident” or
“stronger in Christ.”
May he give you
the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed (Psalm 20:4,
NIV).
