“Come and dine, the Lord is calling, come and dine.” - C. B. Widmeyer
When I started lifting weights I was 15 years old, one
hundred and ten pounds, with an earnest zeal for becoming a bodybuilder! I woke up at 5am each morning to lift
with my football teammates before classes began. After a couple of weeks of this I realized that although I
had pushed myself through exhausting workouts, I hadn’t grown much muscle or
gone up in strength. I asked a
bigger guy what he did to ‘get big’ and after comparing his strategy to mine, I
realized that our diets were different.
I ate what I wanted; he ate what he needed. He intentionally ate calories—complete proteins, complex
carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fats, and vitamins—to grow. On the contrary, I often skipped meals
and went malnourished. I needed to
feast to be a beast! Similarly how
many people desire to grow spiritually but fail to supplement their selves with
God’s Word and prayer? Weeks pass and
although they work hard and are exhausted, they haven’t grown stronger because
they are malnourished spiritually.
If this happens to be you then God has a table spread for you. Let’s eat!
Blessed is he
that shall eat bread in the Kingdom of God (Luke 14:15, ASV).
