“Beauty is everywhere a welcome guest.” -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Yesterday I watched my church
baptize hundreds of people. Just
when we thought that we’d finished baptizing everyone, a hefty shirtless man
rolled up on his bike, asking, “Got room for one more?” We asked him if he wanted a shirt, and
he replied, “Nope.” He became the
only person all day to take the plunge shirtless! What if the church and everyone that comprised it truly
adopted a “come as you are” culture of welcoming people? More people would feel comfortable
coming to church. Let’s seek to make
room for just “one more” person, regardless of whether they dress, talk, or
think like you. When you welcome
people you then welcome God to work in their lives as well as yours.
Show
hospitality to one another without grumbling (1 Peter 4:9, ESV).
