“When God is
speaking, one word is more than
enough. He's more interested in your
full obedience than your total understanding.”
–Steven Furtick
The prophet Samuel gave King Saul the word of God, asking
him to completely wipe out the Amalekites (1 Sam. 15). Saul and his men kept the best of the
spoils of the war for themselves.
When Samuel asked Saul about this, he first tried to justify his
actions. After Samuel rebuked him,
only then did he do as God had asked.
By then, however, it was too late.
God’s favor had already fallen from Saul and his throne given away. There’s a lesson to be learned: Delayed
obedience is still disobedience; be decisive in obeying God. Of course God mercifully gives second
chances, but isn’t it better to get it right the first time? Don’t delay; be decisive.
Trust
in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make
your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6, NLT).
