“None of this is to say that the past is your future. That would be like trying to drive
using only your rearview mirror.”
-James Kouzes & Barry Posner
I’m currently in Israel to see holy sights of the
Bible. The time zone difference
here and back home is an 8-hour difference. I told a friend of mine, “It may be midnight here but it’s 4pm
back home. I may not sleep
tonight.” He replied that when you
come to a new time zone you have to begin to believe that the time is
right for you. I thus made the
decision to adjust my clock accordingly, not to forget the past, but to live in
the present and look to the future.
This serves as a metaphor in that we can’t go forward and live the
fullest life possible if we are spending most of our time looking in the
rearview mirror. Collectively
let’s decide to live in the present and look to the future. Adjust the clock.
Therefore, if
anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the
new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV).
