“Envy begins by asking plausibly: Why
should I not enjoy what others enjoy? And it ends by demanding: “Why should
others enjoy what I may not?” –Dorothy Sayers
Have you ever wanted to be someone
else? Or maybe you only wanted
what they had. There will always
be someone who you think is better looking than you, has more money, and receives
greater public recognition. As
Thomas Aquinas famously defined, envy is “sorrow at another’s good.” In other words, you refuse to be happy by
someone else’s success, and worse, maybe even someone close to you. If this applies to you, I’m going to declare
something over you: This absolutely is not God’s will; He is calling you to so
much more. Today ask God to help
you center your life on His will so that you find contentment with what thereafter
ensues. When you hitch your life
to God’s greater plan, then He also provides you the necessary peace.
Delight
yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart
(Psalm 37:4, AMP).
