“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present
and not giving it.” -William
Arthur Ward
What if you searched for just the right gift, bought the
gift and the wrapping paper, and spent 10 minutes carefully taping each end
(well, that’s how long it’d take me), only to withhold the present from the very
person you wanted to bless?
In that same spirit we can live our Christian lives,
savoring our salvation, counting God’s blessings, and soaking in His
love—without properly thanking him for it.
Especially during the holidays, instead of feeling blessed
by what they do have, people feel depressed by what they don’t have.
God has given us all reason to be grateful. How about a country where the Pilgrims
had come to worship him freely?
How about the bread that always seems to find your table? What about the family and friends you
do have?
This Thanksgiving my prayer is that we can each take five
minutes to thank God in prayer. Do
not let your thanks stop here. Let
the people you are celebrating with know that you’re thankful God has blessed
you with their presence in your life.
O give
thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known His doings among the peoples!
