“Wash your face every morning in a bath of praise.” -Charles Spurgeon
Just as we wash away rheum, “sleepy,” from our eyes that hinders us from physically seeing clearly in the morning, we have to wash away whatever hinders the eyes of our hearts from spiritually seeing clearly. God knows that our default settings can tend to think the worst in others, be hung up on the guilt of the past, and be less than grateful for what we have. The way we begin to see clearly is when we praise God simply for who He is as opposed to what He can do for us. God is Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords who loved us enough to lower Himself to the cross to die for our sins and sins of the world so that we could be saved. If God never did anything else for us, He's already done more than enough. We simply praise God because He is worthy. This little tweak in how we pray can greatly alter our day by affecting how we see and understand God.
Let us praise God for his glorious grace, for the free gift he gave us in his dear Son! (Ephesians 1:6, GNB)
