Leading By Empowering Others

Moses had a difficult time being the lone judge of Israel’s court cases.  Everybody, and I mean everybody would come to him, so eventually his approach of going it alone became overwhelming.  Moses’ father-in-law said, “You can’t keep living this way.”  Moses’ father-in-law comprised a management system to which all of the tasks Moses had done alone would now be delegated out to leaders subordinate to him.  Arguably, this system saved Israel, and freed their prophet to do what he was called to do: hear from God, and lead Israel to the promise land.  Likewise, if you want to successfully lead any organization, don’t be the lone ranger that goes it all alone.  This is unsustainable.  Instead, exercise leadership by empowering others. You will be working with your head (and not just your hands), those following you will appreciate the new responsibility, and your organization will run more effectively.
