“Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is
the rest we take between two deep breaths.” -Etty Hillesum
One day Jesus and his disciples were on a boat when a
colossal storm hit them. As the
waves began to mount, the disciples were greatly distressed, but not
Jesus. He was asleep! Jesus woke up to calm the storm, but
not before he made it a point to rest.
Here’s my point: if Jesus needed rest to carry out what he was called to
do (and he’s God), then so do you.
Perhaps rest for you isn’t sleeping, but rather an activity that
rejuvenates you. Rest, really
rest, and you will be ready to face life’s storms and do whatever God has
called you to do.
Then
Jesus said, “Let's go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile”
(Matt. 6:31, NLT).
