“People buy into the leader before
they buy into the vision.” -John C. Maxwell
There wasn't a better
leader in human history than Jesus.
One way this is true is that Jesus helped others see
themselves in His vision, The Good News. Here’s how. Jesus’
vision wasn’t just good for Himself, but it was good to Peter and John as well. They were fishermen and Jesus spoke
their language by saying, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men”
(Matt. 4:19). In that Jesus’
vision went from being “my” vision to “our” vision, and from then on Peter and
John spread the Good News everywhere. They were eventually even willing to die for this vision. Leaders, whenever you are casting vision you must always
help your constituents see themselves in the vision simply because people ask,
“How does this involve me?” Cast vision containing this critical element and
you’ll likely have a big crew following you.
Now
when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were
uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had
been with Jesus (Acts 4:13, ESV).
