“We know what we are, but not what we may be.” - William Shakespeare
When Jesus fasted in the
wilderness the devil came to tempt him and the first thing that he said to
Jesus was “IF you’re the Son of God” (as if “IF” was in question). The devil knew who Jesus was and Jesus
did too, but the devil wanted to see if he could convince Jesus that He was not
actually the Son of God. The devil likes to similarly question our identities
(our integrity really) and especially whenever we stumble. He wants you to believe that you’re not
actually a child of God but instead a fraud. He knows if he succeeds in this that he can lower your
confidence level to the effect that you have less of an impact as a parent,
spouse, student, employee and leader.
Don’t fall for it. Know who
you are: a child of the most high God.
Thus you have inherited all of the power, authority and confidence that
comes with being His child.
The
thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life,
and have it abundantly (John 10:10, NRS).
