“If you go looking for a friend, you're going to find
they're very scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you'll find them everywhere.”
-Zig Ziglar
If anyone modeled what it meant to be a friend it was
Jesus. Jesus was a friend to
people that many in society ostracized.
Jesus took relational risks by continually giving more than He could
ever get back in return. Jesus wasn't afraid to put Himself out there to be rejected. Jesus
made Himself available to people and showed Himself friendly, and as a result many
people heard the Good News and became friends of God. Likewise, we must make ourselves
available to people and show ourselves friendly. When we look to be a friend God will fill our lives with
friends and we also grow in our friendship with Him.
A man that has friends
must show himself friendly... (Proverbs 18:24, KJV).
