A Greater Vision

Abram lived on his father’s land until he was 75 years old and presumably he would inherit it when his father died.  However, one day God told Abram that he would have to “go” to find the place that He would show him.  Even though Abram couldn’t yet see the promise land, God had given Him a vision for it.  Abram’s father’s land was good enough, but God wanted to take Abram to a place that was greater.  God also told Abram that he would be blessed and famous so that he could be a blessing to others (Gen. 12:2).  Here are the takeaways for us.  Firstly, God wants to bless his children, however many people very often settle for “good enough” when God wants to do something “greater” in their lives.  Secondly, God never blesses you just for your sake, He blesses you so that you can also be a blessing to others and make His name great.  If you don’t have a God-given vision then ask Him for one.  If God has already given you a vision then ask Him for the courage and faith to fulfill it.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1, NLT).
