“It is easier to forgive an enemy than
to forgive a friend.” -William Blake
The cost of forgiveness is little
when you invested little; the cost of forgiveness is great when you invested greatly. Unanswered
questions and what you wish you’d said bombard your mind. “How could you?” and “I was there for
you.” or “I never would have treated you the way you treated me.” The person who wronged you may
never apologize and you may never reconcile your grievance with them.
Biblically, great testing precedes great blessing. The most Powerful Force in the universe can replenish the
years you lost and replace the person you loved, but sometimes He first will test
you to see if you’ll forgive. Forgiveness for you might be a daily process that you tend to
the garden of your heart by pulling out the sprouts of bitterness that will
only grow if left unattended. Once
you forgive you may find that the greatest blessing of all was forgiveness
itself.
Father,
forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing
(Luke 23:34, NLT)
