“Never deliberate what is clearly
wrong, and try to persuade yourself that it is not.” -Frederick Temple
Football’s finest fought to the
finish. One team is crowned
champion, confetti falls, and fans crowd the streets. This victory will be
widely recognized for the next few weeks.
The athletes can expect national press coverage, a city parade, and
countless parties in their honor.
On the contrary when we overcome temptation—no confetti falls, no
parties are thrown, and we usually don’t even get a pat on the back. So you might ask: What’s the point of fighting? This win is a private victory. The only Other that knows, aside from
you, is God. If your heart is pure
and your mind is at peace, there isn’t anything else more gratifying than God
smiling down on you.
For You, Lord, will bless the [uncompromisingly] righteous
[him who is upright and in right standing with You]; as with a shield You will
surround him with goodwill (pleasure and favor)… (Psalm 5:12, AMP).
