“But there are advantages to being elected President. The
day after I was elected, I had my high school grades classified Top Secret.” -Ronald

What if your pastor acted like a
middle school teacher to grade you on your works? Perhaps he’d say, “God, Johny was tardy again to my sermon. Secondly, Johny never seems to know any
of the answers that are found in the class textbook (the Bible); I don’t think
he is doing any of his own studying.
Furthermore, Johny doesn’t seem to be getting along with the lab partner
you assigned him (his wife). God,
Johny is nice boy, but based on his works… he’s earned an F.” Facts are that no matter how good we
think we are, at some point we have broken the Ten Commandments to fall short
of the glory of God. Even the best
student’s righteousness is but rags and he has also failed God (sin). We deserved Hell for our F’s, but because
God loved us so much he sacrificed His Son to pay the consequence for our
failures. Thus God was able to give
a grace curve—our F’s became A’s. You
can’t quite understand what Jesus did for you unless you first understand how
much you needed a Savior from your sin.
God
saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this;
it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have
done, so none of us can boast about it (Ephesians 2:8-9, NLT).
