“Do not take life too seriously. You
will never get out of it alive.” -Elbert
Hubbard
As a teenager my buddies and I would “chop on” (poke fun at)
each other. Nothing was really off
limits: tell me I suck at football, I can’t get a girl, whatever—but the one ad
hominem that somehow made me angry was what they called my Dad: “BIG P” (the
big preacher). They’d snicker to
themselves, saying BIG P this, BIG P that—and I was irate! I believed what they were saying about
him they were really saying about me.
Seven years later I’m meeting up with one of those culprits today, and
it’s funny how the things that used to disrupt my day I now look back and laugh
at. My prayer today is that
whatever you’re going through now will become something you later laugh
at. Guess what? I actually kind of like the nickname BIG
P, but for me!
No,
in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us
(Romans 8:37, ESV).
