“Life every man holds dear; but the
dear man holds honor far more precious dear than life.” -William
Shakespeare
It was the year 2002 and my parents said that because my
body is the temple of the Holy Spirit then I couldn’t get an earring. I heard them but didn’t listen. I smuggled myself to the mall to pierce
only the left ear (that was the style back then), inserted a fake diamond and I
felt like the Real Slim Shady.
Later I was homeless for exactly the eight hours that I left it in. Whether or not the earring was wrong,
that day I learned that some things I do to honor God, and some things I do to
honor man—and by virtue of this I will always honor God.
Haughtiness
goes before destruction; humility precedes honor (Proverbs
18:12, NLT).
