“There is nothing deep down inside us except what we have
put there ourselves.” -Richard
Rorty
In Second Kings chapter 3, Israel
is in the midst of severe drought so the rulers ask the prophet Elisha to intercede
with God for them to send rain.
God tells them to first dig ditches. Just like God: they ask for a blessing but He gives them a
work order. We too must obey God
and dig ditches. For some this may
mean forgiving someone, others giving up pornography, and most of us by going
deeper in our relationship with God simply by spending time with Him. When we obey God in faith, He never
fails to send the rain.
So you
see, faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead
and useless (James 2:17, NLT).
