“I busted a mirror and got seven years bad luck, but my lawyer thinks
he can get me five.” -Steven
Wright (comedian)
Others’ perceptions, and our own perception of others’ perceptions can
many times be a reflection of how we see ourselves. Sometimes, even if this reflection is positive, it doesn’t
change how negatively one feels about oneself. Ultimately when we
each look in the mirror every day, we have to like what we see. For this to happen we must (1) mirror
the life of Christ, and (2) we must see ourselves through the unconditional
lens of God’s love.
James 1:23-25 - Anyone who
listens to the word but does not do what it says is LIKE someone who looks at
his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately
forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law
that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard,
but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
