“Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own.” -Harold Coffin
The word “envy” is translated in Greek as “phthoinos.” The definition is, “Jealousy, pain felt and malignity conceived at the sight of excellence or happiness.” Whether we envy someone for his or her house, spouse, car, physical appearance, health and youth, job, social status, friendships, any material wealth, or whatever—throughout the Bible, the envious are INCAPABLE of good; they are evil. Proverbs 14:30 states, “A heart at peace gives life the body, but envy rots the bones.”
